Discharge In Bankruptcy

Categories: Banking, Regulations

You didn't sign up for Obamacare. Then there was that little growth on your junk. It grew. You needed surgeries—three of them. You had to pay for everything out of your own pocket. It didn't work. You filed for bankruptcy.

Will you still have to pay back your debts? Maybe not all of them. Some may be discharged. As in, a lawyer/judge tell the credit card companies, "Too bad for you; no more collections from this guy." And they then proceed to ruin your credit further—you'll never get another credit card. So that's a discharge.

But some things can’t be discharge—like student loans and child support. (Sorry, Charlie, you’ve still got to pay back that hundred grand in student loans. Next time don't major in sociology.)
