- Now Matthew is addressing Emmy from two years later; he's turned eighteen and is going off to college soon.
- Even though he and Callie don't live together anymore (she lives with Ben), he still feels incredibly close to her because they went through some hard times together, through their own little war.
- Although leaving will be hard, he knows that Callie and Emmy will do just fine since they have Murdoch and Ben and Aunt Bobbie to look out for them.
- He knows that even though they've been lucky to experience such a period of peace, someday Nikki will show up again. He doesn't know when or where, but he's ready for her, and he's not scared of her anymore.
- He promises Emmy that no matter what happens or how far away he is, he'll be there to help her if she needs it. He won't just stand by without acting.
