This Is Where I Leave You Chapter 18 Summary

How It All Goes Down

  • The power dies again as Judd showers. Once again, he finds Alice already downstairs.
  • Paul has serious things to discuss over breakfast, like that Mort's will and testament awards Paul half ownership of the store, while the other three siblings are given the other half to split. Paul tells them that he wants to buy their shares.
  • And then there's a surprise: Phillip tells Paul that he wants to join the family business, which seems to be the first time he's ever said he wanted to do anything. Paul's not very into the idea, given that Phillip has earned his place as the family screw-up.
  • Paul realizes that Phillip is getting money from Tracy and calls him (yes, him) a whore. They start to wrestle until Jen walks into the room and stops everyone in their tracks. She offers her condolences for Mort's death.
  • Seeing an opportunity, Phillip punches Paul in the jaw and knocks him out. Not a great way to start a business partnership, but you do what you do.
