What’s Up With the Ending?

We've been waiting the entire book to figure out all the details behind the mini flashbacks we get throughout the book, so by the time we get to the final chapter, we're eagerly anticipating what really went down in the car accident, how St. Vladimir, Ms. Karp, and Lissa are all connected, and of course, why our girl Rose is shadow-kissed. Let's just say the ending doesn't disappoint. The truth—that Lissa brought Rose back from the dead—is jarring, even to the girls themselves, and it definitely gives us something to think about. After all, Lissa could only resurrect Rose by literally giving up a piece of herself for her friend, so we applaud their BFF-dom all the more at the end. We also look forward to the future of the series, by getting some hints about the struggle Lissa is in for to keep her magical powers of spirit in check and not go bananas like Vladimir or go Strigoi like Ms. Karp.

And how could we forget about the Rose-Dimitri love story? We get why they can't be together since it's their duty to protect Lissa, but we also really want them to. Victor might have been a mad genius, but we kind of liked his charm-spell in the necklace, so when Dimitri tells Rose he can't let himself love her, our heart melts a bit. We don't think this is the end of their story, though. Of course, we'll have to wait to read the next novel in the series to find out.
