Figure Analysis
Caleb gets his first biblical mention in Numbers when he appears as one of the twelve spies sent to scope out the Promised Land (representing from the tribe of Judah). While the other guys don't like Israel's chances against the gigantic Canaanites, Caleb is all gung ho:
But Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, "Let us go up at once and occupy it, for we are well able to overcome it." (13:30)
That's the spirit, kid! Get in there and win!
Because of his loyalty, Caleb, along with Joshua, gets a spot in the Promised Land (while everyone else gets to die for their disobedience):
"My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit and has followed me wholeheartedly, I will bring into the land into which he went, and his descendants shall possess it." (14:24)
Caleb's biblical journey doesn't end there. Once he gets into the Promised Land, Caleb is rewarded with a whole bunch of land in Hebron and claims that, at 85 years old, he's still "as strong today as [he] was on the day that Moses sent [him to Canaan]" (Joshua 14:11).
Hey, all we know is we don't want to mess with the guy. He's tough as nails.
